Turn your goals into a picture you can live in — so you reach them faster.
A vision board shows you what you want. Paint Your Future takes you inside it.
You paint the life you want, in detail: where you are, who is with you, what a normal day looks like. Then you name three steps toward it.
Rough is fine. The picture is a tool for seeing your goals, not a test of skill. If you can hold a brush, you can do this. All materials are provided.
Amit spent 22 years in HR — the last stretch as a CHRO — before leaving corporate at 45. Since 2015 he has run Paint Your Future for over 120 individuals, and for families and organisations. The exercise also appears in his book Double Promotion Half the Effort. He lives in Dehradun and runs Viram, a four-day retreat at the same venue.
In 2013 Amit drew his own future. On the left, a job he had outgrown and a large question mark. On the right, work he loved, income from his own effort, and a room of people who were listening. In the middle, three arrows pointing from one to the other. He stuck the picture on his bedroom wall and lived with it. Twelve years later, in 2025, it had come true, on schedule.
A vision board shows you where you want to go. Paint Your Future starts earlier. You paint two pictures: your life as it is today, and your life as you want it. The gap between them is where the decisions are.
Then you name the three steps that close the gap — and say them out loud to someone.
When you spend time inside the life you want, you start to notice it, plan for it, and make choices that move you toward it. That is what makes goals come faster.
You will not leave with a perfect life plan. You will leave with an honest picture of the gap between the life you have and the life you want — and the first decision to make.
What is shared in the room stays in the room. You will meet the others at tea and at lunch.
A small group is the point — it keeps the room honest and the conversations real.
"I had my entire sales and marketing team do this activity. I was amazed to see how they set aggressive targets for themselves, and a year later they had actually met those. I only had to guide and mentor them."
"I was pretty surprised to see how quickly the team aligned to organisational goals with the Paint Your Future activity."
"We kept calling Amit to conduct the Paint Your Future activity for our leadership retreats. We didn't set corporate goals through this. We asked leaders to set their personal goals, and aligned them with performance at the company. It was a big hit."
